Annotation Dissertation focuses on the issue of children in foster care. This specific group is indicated by domestic and foreign studies as children failing in school, showing an increased number of educational and merit issues, and children from foster families are social stigmatized. Dissertation is focused on child welfare systém, its critique, problems and the ongoing transformation. Briefly presents a system of alternative care of children, in both, family and institutional types. It clarifies the issue of psychological deprivation in the context of alternative family care. The main empirical part of the dissertation focuses on the study of 192 children growing up in foster care and their school performance. Dissertation uses knowledge of domestic and foreign studies, on the basis of which is the final discussion of data executed.
